Here We Go Again! The Jacksonville Scottish Rite Bodies, Orient of Florida recently participated in the Winn-Dixie Hometown Gator Bowl Parade. The parade has become an annual event for the Scottish Rite to get the message out to the people of Jacksonville about the Scottish Rite Foundation and the importance of the childhood language clinics to the children of Jacksonville and surrounding area.
The Gator Bowl game and events are a 61 year old Jacksonville family tradition and the bowl is the 6th oldest college bowl game and the first ever to be televised nationally coast-to-coast. Home to legendary coaches who have participated including: Heisman, Outland, Vince Lombardi and Maxwell Award winners; and more than 175 first team All-Americans.
The 2006 parade was the largest to date with over 100 entries led by the Grand Marshal, Miss Florida. The Scottish Rite float was built by members of the Jacksonville Bodies, from the trailer up, and all art work was done by the Brothers of the Scottish Rite Bodies. The float has a sound system and usually plays the fight songs of the teams participating in the Gator Bowl Football Game. The visiting fans love the music and cheer right along with the Brethren; they cheer for their teams we cheer for the kids.
